Education Activists Call for Revisions to County Schools’ Budget
Education activists across Prince George’s County, MD have formed an alliance in organized protest against recent proposed cuts to the 2012 school budget approved by the Board of Education on February 24, 2011. The group– which includes parents, educators, and community stakeholders– has offered recommendations that will cut administrative costs, help preserve classroom sizes, and save important school-based personnel from elimination. Earlier this week, they submitted their proposal to County Executive Rushern L. Baker III for consideration, and asked the County Executive to send the School Board’s budget back for revisions that incorporate their proposed changes.
Over the next few weeks, this group of concerned citizens will be hosting three forums in Laurel, Largo, and Clinton, Maryland to publicize their platform to parents, students, teachers, and education stakeholders. The forums will educate the public about systemic problems in the Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), provide suggestions for responsible cuts to the PGCPS budget, and gather community buy-in for a PGCPS budget that prioritizes their mission that “Children Come First.”

ths is very nice. Dr. william Hites jr understands pressure only. His cuts are not trasparent and appers target to certain staff at best.

There are many school based and central administrators who are systematically involved in real theft of school equipment as well as funds and making over $100,000 a year who have been spared by this cuts. This is not fair. Dr. William Hites Jr is playing favorates in order to keep his best friends in place and please the union which is compromised. The new budget should be revised and include these cuts.

If you follow closely, you will see that many school based and central adminstrators have been spared of many cuts instead of sparing teachers who work hard with the students on daily basis. The new budget should be sent back to the board of education and proper cuts done to include the administrators involved in corruption incitiated to address the problem. Dr. William Hite Jr, should be forced to make proper changes and say goodbye to his friends involved in a vice.

On another level, I think We also need to engage the state delegates and senators about the many issues emanating from the county school system. The high school consortium and the contractors in Technology is another area which needs to be scritinized. We must make these guys accountable.
